Why My Space Failed : SocialBorder

Remember the time when My Space was the most popular application on the Internet? Everyone loved My Space because they could find friends online. AND, musicians could upload their music online. It was the beginning of social media taking over. I know, many didn’t flee to this application and waited for Facebook and other networks to arise.

What happened to My Space?

In my humble opinion, My Space stopped working as a top option because it didn’t cater to the needs of social media. The applications as a whole stopped themselves short of developing, expanding and finding legitimate ways to connect individuals together. The newer applications that are currently available are just as annoying and don’t allow friends, businesses or musicians to take advantage of the portal.

Of course, it didn’t help that everyone got mad at the marketing campaign Tom started.

Actually, I don’t know why My Space failed. That’s just my opinion. Maybe you have a better theory.

MySpace failed because talking to friends on it was pointless. Once you looked at their profile, a month later it was the same.
No conversation, at at its time nothing to do on it.. Lucky if someone embedded a game in their profile.

Facebook is re-wrote it from ground up, making it a town hall where others come and put up their stall.

I think your assessment is a good one. I would add reputation of a site as a contributing factor.

Why did *I* refuse to create a MySpace page?

I always thought it was for hormonal kids and noob adults. I’d access a page and was assaulted with 10 videos and 5 music tracks playing at the same time. It was a hangout for people who didn’t know anything about the internet, who thought it was safe to post even their private telephone numbers, filled with self-conscious teens all poser wanna-bes and self-indulgent happy-happy adults looking for romance.

God… it made me sick.

If MySpace created separate sections for images, videos, conversations/contacts, planner, etc… maybe it wouldn’t have felt like a punch in the face everytime I visited a page.

In the end when I think about mySpace, I think dating site for 11-year olds.

Not aware that it had, although I do not have myspace or facebook, I do not see them as a good form of social networking, it works for some and not for me. Had some pretty bad experiences with facebook. I see it as a gossip column but that is my opinion. Thanks for posting
