Google and TiVo Sign on the Dotted Line

If you haven’t heard yet, Google has decided to team up with TiVo. This will provide you with a different approach to data that is online and may change the way that you are searching online. If you are interested in control over your keywords, then you will want to look closely at how the signatures on the dotted line will affect the way you find websites online.

The main concept that Google and TiVo have agreed upon is an ad data deal. This is based on an audience research agreement where users that are online and subscribed to Google will have series of data that is collected for TiVo. The data that is collected will then be divided into demographics, target markets and different individuals that are surfing online, all which will help TiVo and other advertisers know where to go to find specific target markets.

Of course, the data that is being retrieved is completely anonymous. Sorry, you won’t be getting any visits from the government about your demographical information that you gave to Google. The purpose of this specific data is to let TiVo know what type of person is interested in buying TVs and who is looking at TV ads. By doing this, they can more directly focus on providing contextual ads that talk to those who are interested in buying what they want.

Even though this is just one agreement between Google and TiVo, advertisers and businesses may want to keep their eyes out for future marketing approaches similar to this. Finding target markets and demographics is the current trend taking over the Internet. If you are a consumer, make sure you know what information you are putting online. And for businesses, time to step up the competition.

Would love to hear your thoughts on this specific agreement.
